BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for week 13 were just over 451K cartons which was an increase of 23,000 on the week prior. Weather patterns in the major growing regions were as follows: Temperatures in the far north have seen early A.M. temperatures fall within a range of 22-24.5C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 29-32.7C. Slightly less rainfall was experienced in North Qld banana growing regions this week with the following recorded: Mareeba receiving 41.2mm for the week; and Innisfail receiving a total of a 57.2mm.

Quality is somewhat varied both in terms of fruit colour and degree of skin marking, also still seeing a little sooty mould around which is not uncommon with the kind of weather we have been experiencing and light skin marking together with minor neck injuries, somewhat better than last week though.

Retail ticket pricing in Queensland for cavendish bananas were as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.90/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at a huge range from $3.50-4.90/kg in the stores visited.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

·       Week 13, 2025 - The industry experienced an 8.78% increase in production on the previous week’s harvest with a total of 470,937 tray equivalents harvested and transported (approx 40,000 more tray equivalents) on Week 12, 2025 production.

Production across the country saw NQ still confidently leading in production - accounting for 77.64% of the total volume, with a growing percentage by Central Queensland accounting for 21.97%, then Central NSW for 0.37% of the total production for the week. Central markets seem to be holding the value on Shepards currently with premium tray sales ranging $28-$34 depending on size and class one trays sales ranging $20-$26. There have been a few more early hass arriving in markets around the country.

·      It is forecast that a total of some 411,000 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 14) nationally, with the majority of these being Shepard!! Production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 415K-431K tray equivalents per week. Whilst the majority of production is still the humble Shepard, testing on hass dry matters have commenced in North Qld - our own fruit is not quite ready as of yet with the majority of results within the 20-21.9% range and one at 24% … but give it another another week or two and we will be ready to commence spot picking of larger fruit. We envisage our Shepard harvest to be complete in another two weeks all going well.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week we saw some great offers for customers with pricing as follows - Aldi’s Hass this week shelf tickets on special at $1.99each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Shepard and Autumn Hass avos on a multibuy price at 2 for $4.00ea, and Woolworths Qld with Shepard at $2.30ea.
