AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

·       Week 39, 2024 - The industry experienced a 1.10% increase in production on the previous week’s harvest with a total of 495,240 tray equivalents harvested and transported (approx 9,000 more tray equivalents) on Week 38, 2024 production.

Production across the country saw WA/NT now firmly take the lead in production - accounting for 38.66% of the total volume, followed by Central NSW accounting for a further 21.14%, then NZ accounting for 17.76%, Tristate with 14.29% and finally Southern Queensland and TNR with harvests accounting for 4.91% and 1.51% respectively of the total production for the week. Of the total 495K tray equivalents harvested it is interesting to note that almost 76K were in the form of bulks/processing fruit; some 37K were exported which left just over 382K trays for the domestic market.

·       It is forecast that a total of some 452,000 tray equivalents will be despatched this week (Week 40) nationally, with the majority of these obviously being hass. Production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 433 to 454K tray equivalents per week - a little lighter than where it has been as the SQld, Victorian and Tristate regions are drawing closer to finishing their seasons with only two to four weeks remaining in these regions.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week we saw stable shelf prices as follows - Aldi’s Hass this week shelf tickets at $2.49 each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $2.50-2.90ea, and Woolworths Qld with Hass at $2.50ea.
