AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

·       Week 36, 2024 - The industry experienced a welcome 3.69% increase in production on the previous week’s harvest with a total of 444,204 tray equivalents harvested and transported (approx 17,000 more tray equivalents) on Week 35, 2024 production. Of the total tray equivalents harvested this week, some 91K were in the form of bulks/processing; 34K were exported which left just over 318K tray equivalents for the domestic market.

Production across the country saw Tristate now take the lead in production - accounting for 25.21% of the total volume, followed by Central NSW accounting for a further 23.95%, then WA/NT accounting for 17.02%, Southern QLD with 11.78% and finally NZ, Central Queensland and North Queensland with harvests accounting for 10.78%; 7.47% and 2.25% respectively of the total production for the week.

·       It is forecast that a total of some 401,000 tray equivalents will be despatched this week (Week 37) nationally, with the majority of this obviously being hass - which means a similar quantity is expected for domestic supply to last week. Production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 400 to 412K tray equivalents per week meaning that market pricing is expected to hold.

In addition to our grower partner in SE Qld - Cherry Creek Estates; and our grower partners in the Tristate region, Barham Avocados and Murray Eden Avocados, our partner in the west of this great land, Avonova, are kicking off their harvest slowly.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week we saw shelf prices as follows - Aldi’s Hass this week shelf tickets at $2.49 each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $2.20ea, and Woolworths Qld with Hass at $2.50ea.
