SUPPLY UPDATE
Week 24 saw a total harvest of 392,062 cartons dispatched, which is an increase on week 23 of approximately 18,000 ctns. Harvest over the next two to three weeks is expected to be rather stable with cuts within 390-420K cartons per week. Over the last week in the far north, early A.M. temperatures have ranged 13.0 - 20.0 C across all major growing regions - whilst day time temperatures were warmer ranging 23.8 to 27.4 C. Rainfall this week for Mareeba and Walkamin was again low, receiving 0-0.6mm, Tully and Innisfail receiving significantly less than previous weeks, with 12.4 - 12.8mm across the week in each region. The forecast for the next week is for overnight/early morning temps to dipping to 10C which will see the development of more underpeel chill if it does occur.
Cavendish presented this week with relatively good bloom, some green fruit and a presence of rub marks, rust thrip damage, minor neck injuries and bruising.
Retail ticket pricing in Queensland on bananas was as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $3.99/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a competitive ticket price of $4.00/kg; and Coles were offering fruit also competitively at $3.99/kg.

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:
· Week 24, 2023 - The industry saw a 23.81% increase on the previous week’s harvest with a total of 422,317 trays harvested and transported ( approx. 80,000 more trays) on Week 23, 2023 production. Hass variety supplying 385,284 trays harvested in addition to 37,033 trays of assorted other varieties also in this week’s reported figures, North Qld maintains the lead in overall production at 49.31% of the total volume; Central Qld contributing 47.74% of the volume followed by a combined effort of Central NSW and Tristate contributing the remaining 3.00% (Hass). This week the central markets has seen a further tidy up and another lift in pricing by $1.00-$4.00/tray depending upon size, age and quality.
· It is forecast that a total of 375K trays will be despatched this week nationally. Hass harvest figures forecast for the next two to three weeks will range between 303K and 327K per week, whilst total avocado production across this same period is expected to hit around 327K to 352K per week (including other varieties). The current four week average dispatch figure now sits at 386,599 trays.
Ticket pricing of Hass avocados this week was competitive across the three major supermarkets with ticket prices set at $1.19/$1.30 per piece from Wednesday 21st June.
In terms of Avocado retail pricing in Qld shelf prices were as follows - Aldi Qld had Hass ticketed at $1.19ea; Coles Qld had Hass ticketed at $1.30-1.50ea, and Woolworths had Hass selling at a competitive $1.30-$1.50/ea. Woolworths and Coles stores also stocked Greenskin GMAX, priced at $2.30-2.50ea.

This store had some green fruit. Lady Fingers were on display but no price.
ALDI FOREST LAKE

Good bloom however considerable bruising and one section (presumably carried fruit) that is spotting and heavily marked.
Lady Fingers priced at $5.99/kg. These were partially green but good bloom overall.

COLES GARDEN CITY
Cavendish bananas displayed at $3.99/kg - slightly dull with a few clusters that were greener. Kids packs at $4.00ea.
Red Tips at $5.50/kg and Lady Fingers at $7.90/kg.
COLES CARINDALE
Cavendish on display priced at $3.99/kg. A full display, slightly green.
Red Tips at $5.50/kg but no stock. Lady Fingers at $7.90/kg (these were bruised).
Organic variety at $6.50/kg.
COLES FOREST LAKE
Cavendish bananas displayed at $4.00/kg. Most of the Cavendish display were of semi colour condition and there were minor skin marks including rust thrip, rub and minor neck injuries. Kids packs at $4.00ea had good bloom.
Red Tips at $5.50/kg. Lady Fingers at $7.90/kg. Organic variety at $6.50/kg.

WOOLWORTHS GARDEN CITY
Cavendish priced at $4.00/kg - Eat Now and Eat Later display areas. Kids packs at $3.50ea.
Lady Fingers at $8.00/kg and Organic at $6.00/kg.
All fruit in this store was relatively clean and had good colour.
WOOLWORTHS CARINDALE
Cavendish priced at $4.00/kg. Kids packs at $3.50ea. Not a great volume of eat now stock.
Red Tips at $5.50/kg and Lady Fingers at $8.00/kg. Organic also on display for $6.00/kg.
WOOLWORTHS FOREST LAKE
Cavendish Bananas at $4.00/kg. Minor neck injuries common, sap stains and light skin marking.
Red Tips at $5.50/kg and Lady Fingers at $7.00/kg presently cleaner though still a few clusters with skin rub marking. Organic variety at $6.00/kg.
Kids Banana clusters were quite marked ticketed at $3.50.

Rockridge an Dorian Hass Avos - Ct 25’s - at $1.50ea. A full, well presented display. GMAX avos at $2.50ea - heavier skin marking than seen recently.
COLES FOREST LAKE
Dorian and Rockley Hass Ct 25 Avocados ticketed at $1.30ea. Fruit packed 8th to 13th June so fruit age is 8 to 13 days. Some nodule damage, bruising and ridging noted. GMAX on display for $2.50ea.

Count 20 Purpleskin Hass and Simpson Hass ticketed at $1.30/$1.50ea signing was confusing- good colour and were displayed neatly. Packed dates of 8th and 9th June so fruit age is 12 to 13 days.
Also on display were Count 16 GMAX for $2.50ea.

WOOLWORTHS CARINDALE
Count 23 Purpleskin Hass at $1.30ea. ‘‘Eat Now” stickers on some fruit. The Hass display was quite messy for customers. Perhaps customers looking for the right piece?? Quality was mixed. Packed date 8th June so age is 13 days. Greenskin GMAX priced at $2.30ea.

WOOLWORTHS FOREST LAKE
Purpleskin Hass Avocados ticketed at $1.30ea on entry side of the A Frame and Greenskins GMAX on the rear of this. Display was neat. Good mix of fruit maturity. Some copper residue noted and one incidence of sun damage.
GMAX priced at $2.30ea.
5pk Prepack ticketed at $6.50/net.
